Detmold - cultural city in the Teutoburg Forest!
Detmold was first mentioned in 723 as "Theotmalli". In 1265 Detmold received the market privilege, which has led to the further development of the city. In the southwest of Detmold, the Hermann Monument commemorates the Varus Battle in 9 AD. In this battle, a Germanic army under the leadership of Arminius (Herrmann) defeated 3 roman legions. The memorial, inaugurated in 1875, makes Detmold famous far beyond its borders.
With about 75,000 inhabitants Detmold is the largest city in the district of Lippe.
